Former India batter Manoj Tiwary came up with shocking and bold statements during his exclusive conversation with Sports.info. Tiwary felt that there are a few things that need to be corrected in the Indian cricketing setup or the selection criteria. He also stressed the importance of playing in the Ranji Trophy or other domestic cricket tournaments. The former Bengal cricketer also backed domestic cricket to be an important factor when it comes to the selection of players in the national side.

“This is so unfortunate” – Manoj Tiwary on Karun Nair getting ignored

Manoj Tiwary also broke his silence on the star in-form Vidarbha batter Karun Nair who left everyone awestruck with his sensational batting performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. Nair ended up being the leading run-scorer in the tournament, smashing 779 runs in eight innings, including six unbeaten appearances and an unbelievable average of 389.50. The 33-year-old also smashed five centuries and a half-century with the bat.

However, he still failed to make it to India’s squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which didn’t go well with a lot of former cricketers. Manoj Tiwary seemed to be one of them and he also joined the bandwagon to support the star batter.

“I felt Karun Nair should’ve got an opportunity because he’s in tremendous form but somehow Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector said that he couldn’t make a place for him. This is so unfortunate, the team is very strong that’s why I always say that we have a lot of potential,” said Manoj Tiwary to Sports.info.

“We should win the ICC trophies regularly just because of the talent we have. It’s just a little bit here and there if things get corrected, I am pretty sure that trophy will come to India,” he added later.
