Veteran Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is a doubtful starter for the second Test versus India. The game is to be played in Kanpur and begins on Friday. It is a huge blow for the visitors if the veteran star is ruled out having lost the first match in Chennai.

Hannan Sarkar who is part of the touring party said, “We are heading to Kanpur on Tuesday and today is a day off. We will have two sessions afterwards and we will judge after that  and we don't want to make a decision yet."

The 37-year-old didn’t have a great time with the ball as he went wicketless in both innings. With the bat Shakib scored 32 and 25 as Bangladesh slipped to a huge loss in Chennai by a massive margin of 280 runs.

Bangladesh looking to make strong comeback

Najmul Shanto saw his side lose to India on Sunday despite having the hosts reeling at 144/6 in the 1st innings. The loss has now given his side a huge dent in the slim hopes they had of making it to the finals of World Test Championships next year.

Tamim Iqbal had noted that Shakib had revealed to Murali Karthik about the discomfort he was facing. It is to be noted that the veteran star had undergone surgery recently on his finger which had been bothering him.

Hannan Sarkar also said, “These two days, the physio has kept him under observation. When we get back to the ground, we will get the physio's feedback. We have to think before picking Shakib for the next match and there is time before the next match. We will see what condition he is in.”

The former Bangladeshi star also said, “We know the pain in his hand is being discussed. It was not there before the match and many have tried to explain it in different ways. But before the match, we got a 100 percent clearance from the physio before taking him. He was a 100 percent fit then.”

“You can't say it's an injury. The discomfort he felt in that finger was not there before the match. He felt that when he started to bowl," Hannan Sarkar was heard telling to the media after the Chennai Test.
