The MI Cape Town completely outplayed the defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) by a massive 10-wicket margin to take a step forward closer to the tournament’s knockout stage. The one-sided affair was played at the MICT’s home ground, Newlands in Cape Town on Wednesday; the hosts completely dominated the orange outfits throughout the entire game.
MICT skipper Rashid Khan won the toss and asked the Eastern Cape to bat first; batting first, the visitors were bundled out at the score of just 106 runs in 19.2 overs. Their batters looked completely clueless against the MICT bowling attack except for opener David Bedingham, who scored run-a-ball 45 runs, with fours.
Besides him, skipper Aiden Markram and the lower middle-order batter Andile Simelane were the only two batters to touch the double-digit individual score, with 10 and 21 runs, respectively.
Star MICT all-rounder Cobrin Bosch bowled a sensational and economical spell, scalping 4 wickets at just 19 runs in his 3.2 overs. The veteran pacer Kagiso Rabada also bowled an amazing spell, picking up 2 wickets at just 14 runs in his three overs, alongside a wicket each bagged by Trent Boult, skipper Rashid Khan, and Dewald Brevis.
Apart from the bowlers who took the wickets, MICT all-rounder George Linde bowled the most economical over of the entire match, conceding only 10 runs in his 3-over stint. Eventually, SEC lost their all wickets at the score of just 106 runs, giving an easy target of 107 runs to chase for the MI Cape Town.
Ryan Rickelton and Rassie van der Dussen rattle the SEC bowling attack
While chasing the target, MICT’s in-form opening pair of Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickleton gave no chance for SEC bowlers to make a comeback in the entire second innings. Rickelton-Dussen duo stitched an unbeaten and fiery opening partnership of 110 runs in just 11 overs to help MICT beat SEC by a heavy margin of 10 wickets.
Wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickleton scored a match-winning half-century, with 59 runs off just 36 balls, hitting eight fours and a six. Rassie van der Dussen scored 48 runs off 30 balls, with 4 fours and two sixes.
With this win, MICT have strengthened their position at the second spot in the tournament standings, with five wins and only two defeats, alongside a ‘no-result’ game in their eight matches. They will now face the Pretoria Capitals in their next game.
