Devon Conway suffers painful blow during SA20 game between Joburg Super Kings and Pretoria Capitals

Joburg Super Kings took on Pretoria Capitals in a key match during the SA20 tournament on Tuesday. Openers Faf Du Plessis and Devon Conway came out to bat looking to put on a big score on the board. Conway had scored 76 not out in the previous game against Sunrisers Eastern Cape to help JSK win by nine wickets.

Faf Du Plessis was facing Eathan Bosch in the fifth ball of the third over. Super Kings’ skipper slapped the ball back with full force. Devon Conway who was at the non-striker’s end got hit on his arm. Medical came out to check on Conway who seemed in lots of discomfort before walking off the field. There was relief for JSK’s fans as Conway came out to bat in the eighth over after Wihan Lubbe was dismissed.

The Kiwi batter began with a boundary before he was dismissed by Gideon Peters for nine runs. Tom Rogers then struck in the very next over when he had the wicket of Super Kings’ skipper Faf Du Plessis. The 40-year-old tried to play the scoop shot but didn’t time the ball well. Miguel Pretorius who was fielding at short-fine leg took an easy catch to send Du Plessis back to the hut for 14 runs. 

Kyle Verreynne replaces Rilee Rossouw as Pretoria Capitals skipper

Pretoria Capitals skipper Kyle Verreynne won the toss and chose to bowl first. It is a key game for the home side if they have to keep their playoff hopes alive. The home team made five changes to their side with regular skipper Rilee Rossouw missing out. Kyle Verreynne revealed during the toss that he is set to captain the side for rest of the season. 

None of the JSK batters managed to come to terms with the pitch which was very slow. Wihan Lubbe batted 11 balls before getting dismissed for three runs. Senuran Muthusamy got the key wicket as Eathan Bosch took an easy catch. Du Plessis scored 14 off 13 balls with one four and one six in his knock.

David Miller’s Paarl Royals have become the first team to qualify for the playoffs of SA20 2025 season. Durban Super Giants on the other hand were eliminated after having won just one game from their nine match with a total of eight points.
