Ryan Ten Doeschate credits South Africa for their WTC Final win

Ahead of the Kolkata Test 2025 between India and South Africa, Ryan Ten Doeschate praised the Proteas for winning the WTC Final 2025. The Indian Assistant Coach claimed South Africa to be a quality team, given that they beat Australia in the WTC Final.

Ten Doeschate credited the Proteas for their WTC Final 2025 win. The South African team chased the highest total in the history of the WTC Finals in June 2025 under the captaincy of Temba Bavuma to win the Test mace.

"Absolutely. I think (SA) they deserve a lot of credit for how they've gone about their work in the last sort of nine, ten months. You know, the position they've found themselves in the WTC and they've shown that they are a quality team to beat Australia at the final," Ten Doeschate said in the press conference ahead of the Kolkata Test 2025.

He felt that the WTC was a tournament where every match counted towards the eventual result. The Dutch claimed that there is no series in a particular leg where teams can afford to take the back seat. As there is a need to handle all three formats with care, along with the WTC Schedule, he felt it was an important tournament.

"But also, the WTC is just so important. There's no series that you can just take back and let slip by. And obviously, in the context of the World Cup coming up in a couple of months and, you know, managing the three formats, I'd say this is as important as anything else," Ten Doeschate added in his statement.
