MCA President claims Rohit Sharma played role in Yashasvi Jaiswal's decision to stay with Mumbai

Yashasvi Jaiswal had decided to switch his Domestic Team from Mumbai to Goa early in 2025. However, the Southpaw took a U-turn and decided to stay with Mumbai for the upcoming seasons a few weeks after his decision. The MCA President Ajinkya Naik claimed Rohit Sharma had a role in influencing Jaiswal's career choice.

Ajinkya Naik appeared in an interview with Times of India with Gaurav Gupta, where he revealed the change in Jaiswal's decision. He claimed that Rohit asked Yashasvi to stay with Mumbai, explaning him the legacy of the team and also reminding him that it was Mumbai Cricket that helped him to shawcase his talent by providing the right platform.

"Rohit asked Yashasvi to stay on in Mumbai at this stage of his career - he explained to Yashasvi that there was a lot of pride & Prestige in playing for a team like Mumbai which has won 42 Ranji titles - Rohit also told Yashasvi that he must not forget that it was Mumbai Cricket that he got a platform to show his talent and must be grateful to the city for that," Ajinkya Naik said in the interview.

How Mumbai Cricket helped Yashasvi Jaiswal's career growth?

Before getting a callup for the Indian National Team, Jaiswal scored truckload of runs for 3-4 seasons for Mumbai across competitions like Ranji Trophy, Irani Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and Irani Trophy.

Following his consistency and performances in the IPL and for India A, Jaiswal got a maiden India Call-up in Tests and T20Is. Since then, there has been no looking back for the Southpaw, who has become one of the best performers in the Indian team in the last couple of years.
