Shubman Gill scored a fine ton in the first innings of the second Test between India and the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Indian skipper scored an unbeaten 129*(196), which included 16 fours and 2 sixes. In the process, Gill brought up his 10th Test ton, 19th international ton, and broke several records.

Gill now holds the record for most tons for India in the history of the World Test Championship. The right-handed batter has scored 10 Test tons as of October 2025, which is the most by an Indian since August 2019. Among them, five have come as a captain alone in the last 4 months.

The Indian middle order batter scored his fifth hundred of the year as a captain, which is a unique feat. Gill became only the second Indian captain to score 5 or more Test hundreds in a calendar year. Virat Kohli had achieved the feat in back-to-back years in 2017 and 2018, where he had registered five tons each.

Shubman Gill's good conversion rate and unique Test record

In his short career so far, Gill has shown a great ability to convert fifties into hundreds. He has 10 tons and 8 fifties with a conversion rate of over 50%. As a captain, it's even better, as Gill has 5 tons and just a solitary fifty-plus score to his name as the captain of the side.
