"People want to know my opinion on the non-selection. I will just say it’s not in my hands, it's the job of the selection committee, coach, and captain. If they feel I should be there, they will select me," Shami said in an interview with Times of India, when asked about his snub.

Shami was a part of the Indian team which won the Champions Trophy 2025. He was India's key pacer in the tournament in Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj's absence. Following a mediocre IPL 2025, Shami wasn't picked for the Indian team for the tour of England and the series against the West Indies.
