India’s veteran spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin was awe in of Rohit Sharma’s current form with the bat. India’s skipper has been in good form during the recent series against Sri Lanka. The Indian batting star had scored 157 runs from the three games during the recent ODI series.

Ravichandran Ashwin took to his YouTube channel and said “One thing that stood up for me in the Sri Lanka series was Rohit Sharma's batting once again. No matter what is happening, no fear, Rohit means I am going to hit. As a batter, Rohit is par excellence at this point of time,"

The veteran star also said “Rohit Sharma plays square, sweeps - tries reverse sweep, when he plays fast ball, he uses his feet to come down the track - he is creating options” speaking about the way Rohit Sharma played the Sri Lankan bowlers.

Rohit Sharma disappointed with team performance during ODI series

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma expressed unhappiness with the way the team performed during the ODI series. The 37-year-old expressed displeasure with his batters in particular at the way they capitulated in the three games.

Rohit Sharma speaking at the end of the game said “If you look at Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando, they got a lot of runs square of the wicket. They were using the turn, and sweeping, making the fielder move left and right. They were smart with how they batted and we were not”

The Indian star batter also said “All in all, we need to admit where we have made mistakes, we didn't dominate against spin. On such wickets, you need to dominate a bit and the Sri Lankan spinners had consistently kept us under pressure in all three games”

Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra slammed the Indian approach when he said “We weren't able to close out the innings with the ball. There seemed a sense of complacency that we would get the wickets anyway and if we don't get the wickets, we will chase the runs anyway. The ruthlessness was missing."

“I think we outbat the opposition and play spin really well on flat wickets. Out bowlers also bowl better than theirs on such pitches. However, when the pitches begin to turn, our batting becomes ordinary and the gap in the quality of bowling is reduced. So this is a problem they need to address." Further added Aakash Chopra
