Quinton De Kock scored 90 runs in 46 balls in the second T20I of the 2025 series between India and South Africa. After the visiting side beat the home side comfortably by 51 runs, De Kock soke about his return from retirement. He revealed the reason behind his decision, both to retire, and to change it to be back in the South African team.

"Because I was doing it quite a bit before, I knew what it took in order to be an international cricketer again. So that transition was fairly simple, it's just a matter of just doing it. But, I didn't change much when I was away," De Kock said in the post-match talk.

"I know world cricket is changing, at least in the T20 game, but I thought I could still keep up with the way I play, so I didn't change much. I think prior to my retirement, I was losing my hunger to win games for this team, specifically for the Proteas," the Southpaw added in his statement.

"Time away just brought back my hunger," - Quinton De Kock

"That time away just brought back my hunger," he noted. De Kock felt that his time away from cricket helped him to regain his hunger. He noted that he is back with a renewed energy and his focus is to not just play, but to perform.

"I was telling the guys, I don't think I've ever felt this way. Whereas before when you're young, you're trying to just play two score runs and impress. I feel now that there's a renewed energy where I'm not just playing," De Kock claimed.
