Young Karnataka batter Devdutt Padikkal endured a bad start to Duleep Trophy 2024. The left-handed batter was out for a duck after facing four balls during the India C vs India D match in Duleep Trophy 2024.

The incident occurred in the final ball of the 6th over bowled by Vijaykumar Vyshak. On seeing the ball being pitched up Padikkal saw his feet go nowhere as he was caught on the crease. Padikkal played the ball on the up and saw Rituraj Gaikwad taken an easy catch.

It was India C captain Gaikwad who won the toss and chose to bowl first. Shreyas Iyer during the toss had said that he would have batted first as well. It is a key tournament for many of the players who are vying to be selected for the long season ahead.

India D loses six wickets before lunch

Put into bat, India D lost opener Atharva Taide for 4 in the first over of the innings. Anshul Kamboj got his wicket when the batter was caught by Vyshak. Yash Dubey and Shreyas Iyer then added 19 runs for the second wicket before the wickets tumbled.

Vijaykumar Vyshak bowled a perfect line to catch the outside edge of Iyer as Abhishek Porel did the rest. The India D skipper was out for 9 after facing 16 balls. This was followed by the wicket of Padikkal 4 balls later.

Anshul Kamboj then struck for the second time when he had Yash Dubey caught by Porel for 10. At that stage the India D side were reduced to 23/4 in the 7th over. Ricky Bhui batted for 13 balls before becoming the 1st wicket for Himanshu Chauhan.

KS Bharat and Axar Patel batted for 57 balls and added 14 runs for the 6th wicket. It seemed as if India D will go to lunch without any further damage. Manav Suthar though got the scalp of Bharath for 17 as Baba Indrajith took a smart low catch. This reduced the India D side to 48/6 before lunch.

At the time of writing, India D were 52/6 with Axar Patel batting on 8 and Saransh Jain on 2. The remaining batters for India D are Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Aditya Thakare.
