Ishan Kishan set to miss first few games of Duleep Trophy 2024; Samson announced as replacement

After a terrific outing in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, India's star wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan is set to miss the first few games of the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024. He was a key contender for the tournament but might miss the entire tournament due to injury. While the injury status hasn't been clarified yet, as per reports, he'll be missing the opening game against Team C.

Ishan was in Team D, playing under Shreyas Iyer in the tournament. This was a great chance for him to make his comeback on the Indian Test team, but now it seems like the comeback will have to wait. Moreover, Sanju Samson has been announced as his replacement for now, and he'll be playing in the first match. The Duleep Trophy's first match for all teams starts on September 5 in two different venues. 

Ishan's absence isn't a good sign for his team since he was in very good form during the Buchi Babu tournament, where he smashed a century and helped his team win games. Moreover, it's a good opportunity for Sanju Samson to display his batting performance and get a seat in the Indian team. He is a classic batter in red-ball cricket and the selectors will keep an eye on the tournament as the Bangladesh series is approaching and players will be chosen from this tournament. 

Suryakumar to miss Duleep trophy 2-24 due to injury

Another setback for India as T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav is set to miss the Duleep Trophy 2024 due to injury. He was also a part of the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament and now was injured during a game. Now, he'll have to step away from playing in the Duleep trophy, which is a personal loss for him because he was looking for a comeback in India's Test team. He has played just one game and didn't get many chances to show his skills. 

Apart from him, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma will also miss the upcoming tournament since the Board wanted senior players to stay away from injury. The decision didn't sit well with the former players, but now, looking at the conditions of Ishan and Suryakumar, it seems like the decision was quite perfect. The Test cycle for India is going to start, and missing any of the senior players will be a huge loss.
