Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins wrote his name in history books on Monday in the IPL 2025 game against Delhi Capitals (DC). The 32-year-old became the first IPL captain to take three wickets in the powerplay phase in IPL history. Cummins bowled three overs in the powerplay stages and picked three wickets for 12 runs.

This was the first time that any IPL captain had taken three wickets in the first six overs of the game. Zaheer Khan who had led Delhi Capitals for few seasons had achieved the feat on more than three occasions. DC’s current skipper Axar Patel also had picked two wickets in the powerplay overs just a few games ago.
Cummins began his onslaught when he got the wicket of Karun Nair for a golden duck caught by Ishan Kishan. The second wicket came in the first ball of the third over as Faf du Plessis gave Cummins the charge in a bid to score quick runs. The former South African skipper just managed to get an edge as Kishan took his second catch of the day.
Abhishek Porel then was out in the first ball of the fifth over as he tried to play a flick shot. Ishan Kishan kept his composure and settled under the skier and gave Cummins and SRH their third wicket of the day. Each of the first three wickets had seen Cummins the bowler and Kishan the wicketkeeper combine well to put DC under a spot of bother.
