Former opening batter Ahmed Shahzad attacked Mohammad Rizwan and his men after the T20I series loss to South Africa. The Men in Green lost the series 2-0 after the third game which was abandoned due to rain on Saturday. This is second successive T20I series loss for Pakistan after 3-0 loss to Australia few weeks ago.
Ahmed Shahzad uploaded a video on his social media handle where he was heard saying, “To be honest, it was a good game to watch as a spectator. But it felt like South Africa A & Pakistan A sides were playing against each other with some players having the ability to fit in the senior side from both countries. If you know you know.”
Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, the two most senior players in the side failed to fire with the bat. The focus now shifts to the ODI series with both sides playing three games before the two-match Test series. Jason Gilliespie recently quit as the coach of the red-ball and former pacer Aaqib Javed has been named as the interim coach.
Former Pakistan batter Ahmed Shahzad while attacking his team also added, “Just a reminder 7 main players are absent from this South Africa side & we played with our full strength & we lost the series once again just like we lost against Australian kids in T20s few days ago. Pakistan cricket is dying everyday & everyone is sleeping from top to bottom. Shame."
After the series loss, Mohammad Rizwan lamented about the lack of experience in the side. In the second T20I the visitors lost despite scoring over 200 with Reeza Hendricks scoring a sensation 117 to help the home team to a huge win.
Speaking after the loss on Friday, Rizwan said, “Saim Ayub was exceptional, but after 10 overs, we lost our way. The middle order is a work in progress. We have an inexperienced side. We were aiming for 220-plus, but their bowlers delivered brilliantly in the last four overs.”
Pakistan white-ball skipper also said, “Irfan Niazi is one of the guys we are looking at for power hitting. Hopefully, he will continue doing well”. Mohammad Rizwan and his side will have to do well if they to beat a strong South African side in the 3-game ODI series starting on Tuesday.
