Amir also performed up to the team’s expectations in the prestigious cricket biennial, but the team’s collective failure forced them to get eliminated from the league stage only. The 32-year-old pacer announced his retirement in a post from his official X-handle.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to retire from international cricket. These decisions are never easy but are inevitable. I feel this is the right time for the next generation to take the baton and elevate Pakistan Cricket to new heights!” wrote Amir in his X post.

“Representing my country has been and always will be the greatest honour of my life. I would sincerely like to thank the PCB, my family and friends and, above all, my fans for their continuous love & support,” he added.

Here’s a look at the ‘retirement post’ shared by Mohammad Amir

Those were the days of 2009 when a young prodigy from DG Khan, Punjab made his international debut for Pakistan on June 7 in Oval T20I. Since then, he has played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 62 T20Is in the Pakistan colours. Later, things took an unexpected and drastic turn in his career when he got accused of ‘spot-fixing’ in the Lord’s Test in 2010.

Later, he alongside his two senior teammates Mohammad Asif and the then-skipper Salman Butt was sentenced to prison after an initial hearing in a London court.

However, after serving his five-year ban, Amir made a decent comeback. He went on to play a decisive role in Pakistan’s title win in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, defeating India in the final.
