Sanath Jayasuriya was one of the most dangerous batters in the world during the middle 1990’s, and early 2000’s. The current Sri Lankan coach became the first ever Sri Lankan batter to score a Test triple ton. The feat was achieved when Sanath Jayasuriya scored 340 in the first Test versus India in Colombo during the 1997 Test series.

After his record-breaking feat, the Sri Lankan star again was able to take the Indian bowlers to the cleaners in the second Test. During the course of his knock, Sanath Jayasuriya joined a rare list where he became the 4th batter in test cricket to be dismissed for 199.

The second Test match was yet another high-scoring encounter just like the first game. Both teams scored over 1400 runs in the game as the Test ended in a draw. The series ended with both teams sharing the honors.

After their marathon record-setting 952 in the first Test, Sri Lanka batted first and were bowled out for 332. The best batter for the home side was Aravinda De Silva who scored 146. Debasis Mohanty was the best bowler for India with 4/78 from his 20.4 overs.

In reply, India scored 375 on the board as Sachin Tendulkar was able to score his second successive ton. Sourav Ganguly was the highest scorer with his 147 coming off 312 balls with 19 fours and 2 sixes.

Trailing by 43 runs, Sanath Jayasuriya went on the offensive as he started to target the Indian bowlers. Aravinda De Silva scored his 2nd ton of the match as 218 runs were added for the third wicket between De Silva and Jayasuriya.

There was a massive crowd that was waiting in anticipation for Sanath Jayasuriya to score his double ton. Abey Kuruvilla though had other plans as he uprooted the stumps to dismiss Jayasuriya for 199. The Sri Lankan star scored his 199 off 226 balls with 21 fours and 2 huge sixes.

Needing 373 to win Ajay Jadeja batted well to score 73 at the top of the order. At one stage India were 138/4 before Mohammad Azharuddin scored 108 not out and added 110 runs for the 5th wicket with Sourav Ganguly to save the game for India and earn a draw.
