To become a renowned or successful athlete requires years of hard work, determination, passion and patience. It is every athlete's dream to represent their country in their respective sport. However, it is a huge responsibility because billions of people put their hopes on each athlete.
In the recently concluded 2024 Paris Olympics, Neeraj Chopra made the entire India proud by winning the silver medal in the javelin throw. Although five of his attempts were disqualified, Chopra threw 89.45m in his second attempt to win the silver. It was his then-season best throw but wasn’t enough to beat Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem who set a record by throwing 92.97m.
However, the 26-year-old has entered the elite list of Indian players who have won two Olympic medals. Meanwhile, his on-field success has also helped him make big strides financially. The javelin star's brand value rose from $29.6 million to $40 million.
Chopra has risen to the fifth position in terms of brand value among sportspersons in India. He surpassed Indian men's cricket team all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who has a brand value of $38.4 million.
Cricketers top the brand value chart
Five of the top six Indian sportspersons with the highest brand value are cricketers. While Hardik takes the last spot, it is Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the fourth. The veteran opener, who recently led India to a historic T20 World Cup win, has a brand value of $41 million.
Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is still bossing the cart despite retiring ling back from international cricket. He is in the third position with a brand value of $91.4 million. Former India and Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni is in the second position with a value of $95.8 million.
At the number one spot, it is none other than the modern-day cricket legend, Virat Kohli. The ace cricketer maintains a massive distance from the rest with a whopping brand value of $227.9 million.
