The Indian hockey team displayed beautiful gameplay in the Paris Olympics 2024 bronze medal match against Spain, winning 2-1. It was an interesting game since India were not playing with their full strength due to the ban of defender Rohitdas. India still managed to win the game fair and square, giving a memorable farewell to goalkeeper PR Sreejesh.
Furthermore, while talking about his legacy, Sreejesh was humble enough to accept that he'll be replaced by someone else who will be a better player than him. Sreejesh has been the wall of India ever since he started playing for the nations, saving many goals, even during the penalty shoot-out. His retirement will leave a void in the team for quite some time, and finding his replacement will be tough. Sreejesh recently talked about his legacy and gave an example of how Virat Kohli continued the Indian standards in Cricket left by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
"Sachin Tendulkar was there & now there is Virat Kohli and someone will take his place tomorrow - so, Sreejesh was there yesterday but someone else will come & take his place tomorrow - all the sports are like that," Sreejesh told PTI at the India House.
India's Gold quest remains unfulfilled in Paris Olympics 2024
With 117 athletes, India still couldn't win a single Gold medal in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024. With six bronze medals and one silver medal, India will return home disappointed. Some of the athletes, like Manu Bakher, Sarabjot Singh, Neeraj Chopra, Swapnil Kusale, and Aman Sehrawat, got medals for the country. While the hopes were high for PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen in the badminton category, they couldn't win anything.

Moreover, until now, India have won only 41 medals in total at the Olympics. It was in 1900 when Norman Pritchard’s dual silver opened India’s account in Paris. In the women's category, weightlifter Karnam Malleswari became the first woman to win an Olympic medal in Sydney in the year 2000. It was in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where India bagged seven medals, including one Gold.
