Advertisment

Jasprit Bumrah is reported to miss out on India's Playing XI for the fifth Test against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 due to workload management. As India is currently leading the series 1-2, fans are concerned about the visiting side's chances in the last Test of the series, leading to criticism of Bumrah potentially not featuring in the side.

Bumrah suffered back spasms in the Sydney Test against Australia early in 2025, which meant he missed out on the limited-overs series against England, the entire Champions Trophy 2025, and the first few matches of the IPL. He was fast-tracked to playing for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, although it was not a major concern due to a mild workload.

The Test series against England came rather as a heavy workload for him, as India played only three proper bowlers more often than not and filled the Playing XI with All-Rounders. As a result of it, Bumrah was asked to operate in longer spells, leading to a heavy workload. In every match, Bumrah bowled a ton of overs.

In the Headingley Test, the right-arm pacer bowled 24.4 and 19 overs in the first and second innings, respectively. In the Lord's Test, he bowled 27 and 16 overs, respectively. Despite bowling as many overs, Bumrah had not lost his pace before playing the Manchester Test.

At Old Trafford, Bumrah bowled 33 overs and conceded 112 runs, which was his first instance of conceding over 100 runs in an innings. Given the heavy workload, it seems obvious and justified for him not to play the last Test. However, the fans who were not concerned with his physical health took a dig at him on social media, questioned his integrity, and even asked him to retire.
