Meanwhile, something happened in the second innings that attracted the headlines, and it was an exchange of words between GT all-rounder Rahul Tewatia and MI’s star pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. The moment came in the 18th over of the innings when Tewatia smashed a six off Bumrah, but found himself in trouble on the next ball.

Furthermore, while passing Bumrah, Tewatia said a few words, which the former thought were for him. ‘Mereko maat Bol (Don't tell it to me)” said Bumrah as the stump mic caught his voice. However, this confusion didn’t go down well with Tewatia, and the GT all-rounder immediately replied, “Main tereko nahi bol raha hoon. Main khud ko bol raha (I'm not telling it to you, rather I am saying it to myself),”.

MI advance to second qualifier with an all-important win

Speaking of the action of the game, the Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, MI posted a big total of 228 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Former skipper Rohit Sharma smashed 81 runs off just 50 balls, with nine fours and four sixes, followed by his new opening partner and MI debutant, Jonny Bairstow’s 47 runs off just 22 balls, with four fours and three sixes. Later in the innings, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma also scored 33 and 25 runs respectively, followed by skipper Pandya’s 22 runs off just nine balls, with three sixes.

While defending the target, MI bowlers restricted the Titans to a score of 208 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the entire 20 overs, with Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar playing the crucial knocks of 80 and 48 runs, respectively.

Eventually, MI won the game and secured a spot in the second qualifier, where they will face the first qualifier’s losing side, Punjab Kings, on Sunday, June 1.
