Smriti Mandhana registers fastest half-century in WPL (File Photo: X)
Smriti Mandhana’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women completely crushed and outmuscled the Delhi Capitals Women by a massive 8-wicket margin in the fourth game of the ongoing WPL 2025. The defending champions took DC-W at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Monday. The match went one-sided as the RCB Women skipper Smriti Mandhana completely outclassed the DC-W bowling attack in the second innings.
RCB Women skipper Mandhana won the toss and asked DC-W to bat first; batting first, Meg Lanning and Co. were bundled out at the score of 141 runs in 19.3 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues and wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Bryce played the crucial knocks of 34 and 23 runs, respectively. They were the only batters to cross the individual mark of 20+ runs.
Star RCB pacer Renuka Singh Thakur and leg spinner Georgia Wareham scalped three wickets each at just 23 and 25 runs in their respective four-over stints. Besides these two, Kim Garth and Ekta Bisht also bagged 2 wickets each.
Smriti Mandhana’s batting storm blows away DC-W
While chasing the target, RCB Women’s opening pair of skipper Smriti Mandhana and star opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge stitched a sensational opening partnership of 107 runs in just 10.5 overs. Mandhana played a swashbuckling knock of 81 runs off just 47 balls, with 10 fours and three sixes following Danni Wyatt’s 42 runs off 33 balls, with seven fours. During her blistering knock, Smriti Mandhana also registered the fastest half-century of WPL.
Later during the run chase, Ellyse Perry and wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh played the unbeaten knocks of 7 and 11 runs, respectively.
On the back of these knocks, the holders comfortably crossed the line and chased the target in just 16.2 overs, scoring 146 runs for the loss of 2 wickets and winning the game by a massive margin of 8 wickets. With this huge win over Delhi Capitals Women, RCB Women have registered their second consecutive success in the tournament’s current edition.
They are now placed in the top spot on the tournament standings, with two consecutive wins in the two matches, earning four points to their name. Shikha Pandey and Arundhati Reddy scalped 1 wicket each for DC-W in the second innings.
