The Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans are about to get a new owner before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Ahmedabad-based Torrent Group will sign an agreement with the CVC Capital Partners to earn a majority share of the IPL franchise, Gujarat Titans (GT).

Moreover, the deal will only be signed once the lock-in period of the previous deal is completed. Hence, after February 2025, a new deal will be signed between Torrent Group and CVC Capital Partners. As per reports, Gautam Adani's Adani Group has withdrawn from the race since the price was too high. Now, the Torrent Group is the clear winner and will hold the majority of the stake in the team.

Adani Group tried to acquire the team in 2021 after placing a bid of Rs 5,100 crore but eventually lost to CVC Capitals. Apparently, the CVC Capitals placed a bid of Rs 5,625 crore and won the war. Also, the Torrent Group was also in the race and had placed a bid of Rs 4,653 crore.

"Torrent and CVC have a gentleman's agreement in place for the Gujarat Titans since a formal deal can only be signed after the lock-in period ends," said one of the sources as quoted by Cricket One.

Gujarat Titans' future in Shubman Gill's hands

After Hardik Pandya's exit from the Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill became the team's responsibility. However, things didn't turn out in their favour in the IPL 2024 when GT failed to qualify for the playoffs. The players' performance was absolutely weak, and it seemed like none of them wanted to take up the responsibility of the team.

Under Hardik Pandya's captaincy, the team was the same, more or less, but the players came up and showed individuality in every match of the two seasons. In the first season of GT's arrival, the team won the trophy under Hardik's marvellous captaincy. One year later, for the second time in a row, GT qualified for the finals. However, they lost the finals against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as they were fantastic in 2023. Now, the responsibility will be on Shubman to build a team for the upcoming seasons.
