Despite a bad run with the bat, Adam Gilchrist has supported struggling Marnus Labuschagne to get back to his previous level of play. Labuschagne, Australia's No. 3 stalwart, has struggled to find runs in Test matches this year. At an average of 24.5, the Australian batsman has only amassed 245 runs in 6 games thus far. To continue his unproductive streak, Labuschagne made two runs off fifty-two balls and three more in the second innings of the Perth Test against India.
Concerns have been made regarding the batter's position on the squad, but Pat Cummins, the captain, and others have defended him. "Labuschagne needs to be reminded that he is a class act and that the batter has the game to tolerate and withstand everything that has been thrown at him," Gilchrist remarked in an interview with Nine's Wide World of Sports.
For Labuschagne, Adam Gilchrist stated, it's all about recognizing that he still possesses the abilities and preventing self-doubt. Gilchrist also suggested that the Australian batsmen should remain at the crease for an extended period of time in order to neutralize the Indian bowlers' danger. "He's got a game that has been able to tolerate and withstand everything that the cricketing world has presented, and he's dominated for a number of years," he added.
Marnus Labuschagne struggling with his form
Australia lost the first Test match by 295 runs in Perth, with Marnus Labuschagne managing scores of 2 and 3. For Labuschagne, it was the most recent in a string of declining scores. In the current cycle, the right-hand batsman has only amassed 658 runs in 13 Test matches, despite having the third-highest total in the WTC 2021–23 cycle. In the five Test matches after his two half-centuries against Pakistan in early January of this year, he has averaged 13.66.
The thrilling day-night format will be used during the second Test, which is set to take place at Adelaide Oval under lights from December 6–10. The Gabba in Brisbane will host the third Test from December 14–18.
