Ramandeep Singh, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter has been fined 20 per cent of his match fees for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct during their match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Singh committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct. Moreover, he admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee's sanction as released by the IPL.

"Ramandeep committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," said IPL Press release.

The IPL's Code of Conduct, Article 2.20 says, “includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings. For example, this offence may be committed, without limitation, when a Player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to an advertising board, " quoted Hindustan Times.

The match was interrupted due to rain and hence, was reduced to 16 overs per side. On winning the toss, MI invited the visitors to bat first. In 16 overs, KKR scored 157 runs with Venkateshwar Iyer scoring 42 runs in 21 balls. Jasprit Bumrah and Piyush Chawla took two wickets each. Even though the score was low and MI got off to a good start, they failed to convert their momentum and hence lost the game by 18 runs. Harshit Rana, Andre Russell, and Varun Chakravarty took two wickets each.

'The plan was to make him hit across the line...' - Varun Chakravarty reveals plans against Rohit Sharma

For his brilliant performance of 4/17, Varun Chakravarty was awarded the Player of the Match. At the presentation, he talked about the plans and tactics used behind getting out the former MI skipper Rohit Sharma. Moreover, everything went according to the plan and with this win KKR qualified for the playoffs.

"The plan was to make him (Rohit) hit across the line, obviously there was help from the wicket and I was able to use it to my advantage. Tactically we (talking about Narine) are similar, but technically we are slightly different," said Varun Chakravarty at the post-match presentation.
