Team India under the leadership of Rohit Sharma are set to start their super-8 campaign in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The men in blue will play their first match in the super-8 stage against Afghanistan on June 20, 2024. The match will be played at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.

Meanwhile, the former India skipper and the modern-day batting great, Virat Kohli has been through a dismal run of form with the bat so far in the tournament. He has scored a mere 5 runs in the 3 innings he has batted so far. Besides that, Kohli was seen struggling against India’s net bowler Khaleel Ahmed during the net practice ahead of the game against Afghanistan.

“Kohli, looking to get back among the runs, had a long hit, most of which were throwdowns before he moved to the adjacent net to face Kuldeep and Khaleel Ahmed. Kohli middled most of the balls against Kuldeep but missed out on a few from Khaleel, leaving him frustrated,” a source close to Team India said to News18.

Kuldeep Yadav likely to get a game against Afghanistan in the super-8

Meanwhile, the reports have also understood that the Indian team might field Kuldeep Yadav in the playing XI for their first super-8 game against Afghanistan. It could be due to the spin-favouring conditions in the Caribbean.

Notably, both India and Afghanistan had enjoyed a brilliant run in the group stage of the tournament with three successive wins each. However, Afghanistan faced a big defeat in their last group-stage game against the hosts West Indies. India’s last group stage against Canada was washed out due to the rain and severe weather conditions in Florida.

Both India and Afghanistan will be eyeing starting their super-8 stage on a winning note and gaining crucial momentum to make it to the semi-finals of the tournament.
