The former New Zealand skipper and one of the modern-day batting greats, Kane Williamson, came up with his point of view for the future generation of cricket. Notably, Williamson is considered one of the key batters in the modern ‘Fab Four”, alongside Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli, Aussie veteran Steve Smith, and England’s modern-day legend Joe Root.
Meanwhile, Kane Williamson also picked his choice of five players as the ‘fab five’ of the next generation. Williamson also feels that these five young cricketing stars have a lot of potential to rule the cricketing world among the next generation of emerging greats.
The former Kiwi skipper was asked to pick his “next Fab Four,” from the young cricketers who have started their international careers in the last few years only.
“The five players that come to mind would be Yashasvi Jaiswal (India), Shubman Gill (India), Rachin Ravindra (New Zealand), Harry Brook (England), and star Australia all-rounder Cameron Green,” said Williamson to the Times of India in an exclusive conversation. Interestingly, the Kiwi stalwart didn’t pick any Pakistani cricketer in his next ‘fab five’ picks.
Speaking of India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, he has been one of the promising batting talents in India, especially in Test cricket and T20IS. In the 19 Tests he has played, Jaiswal has scored 1798 runs in 36 innings, with a brilliant batting average of 52.88, hitting four centuries and 10 half-centuries so far in his short Test career of almost two years. Besides that, he has also scored 723 runs in 22 T20I innings of the 23 games, with a decent average of 36.15, hitting a century and five half-centuries.
On the other hand, the star India opener in ODIs and T20Is, Shubman Gill has also left a big impact with his batting across all formats of the game. He has scored 1893 runs in 59 Test innings, with an average of 35.05, hitting five centuries and seven half-centuries, alongside 2775 runs in 55 ODI innings, with an impressive batting average of 59.04, hitting eight centuries and 15 half-centuries. Gill also has an ODI double-century to his name, which he scored against New Zealand.
