Indian pacer Akash Deep was addressing the media ahead of the Boxing Day Test starting on Thursday. One of the biggest obstacles for India in the ongoing series has been Travis Head. The left-handed batter has scored over 400 runs in the series with two successive centuries.
The 28-year-old said to the media “Jo plan hai wo nahi bata sakte, wo bhi tayyar ho jayenge” (I cannot reveal the plans made, they might get ready to tackle our plans). Travis Head has been the best batter during the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy. The left-handed batter scored 140 in Adelaide and 152 during the 3rd Test in Brisbane.
Akash Deep also said “As fast bowlers, we will stick to the same deliveries and maintain discipline in our bowling. We will bowl from both over and around the wicket, assess the pitch and conditions, and plan accordingly, It is a bit difficult I have played most of my cricket in India. We can bowl shorter lengths there, but here it is a bit of a challenge"
When addressing Travis Head’s likely struggles, Akash Deep said “I think Travis Head, in particular, struggles against short balls. We won’t let him settle at the crease. We’ll target specific areas and hope to force him into mistakes, which will create chances for us”
Akash Deep recalls his batting heroics in Gabba
Both sides head to Melbourne with the score level at 1-1 with two more matches to go. Akash Deep came into the team in place of Harshit Rana and played a key role with the bat in helping India avoid the follow-on. His last wicket stand with Jasprit Bumrah ensured Australia batted again during the Gabba Test which ended in a draw.
The 28-year-old said “We come to bat lower down the order, so contributions of 20-25-30 runs are very valuable. My mindset is just to contribute. I wasn't looking to save the follow-on that day; I was just looking not to get out. My mindset was this, God willing, we were able to save the follow-on,”
“When you save the match from such a situation, the entire team gets the confidence and our dressing room reflected just that. Everyone was having fun and enjoying. This is my first time playing in Australia. Jassi bhai keeps on telling us things about how we can go about our job; it makes our job easy. He told me one thing, ‘Don’t get too excited. Just focus on your discipline. How you go about your job in Indian conditions, repeat that here.' He told me just this” said India’s pace ace.
