BCCI secretary Jay Shah is set to become the new chairman of the International Cricket Council. Ahead of taking a new role with the apex cricket council, Jay Shah has given his nod to a new rule that could change the landscape of Test cricket.
According to reports doing the rounds, the International Cricket Council is set to allocate close to 15 million dollars for the longest format of the game. The BCCI along with Cricket Australia, and England Cricket Board has given its nod to the move.
Leading Australian newspaper Sydney Morning Herald reported the news and quoted by saying "The fund would ensure a minimum Test payment for all players, thought to be USD 10,000, and pay the costs of overseas tours for struggling countries”
New Initiative set to benefit teams needing funds
According to the reports carried out by the Sydney Morning Herald, the new initiative will not benefit the top 3 boards of cricket. The move is to help the teams that are struggling financially.
Cricket Australia Chairman Mike Baird said, “It's fantastic to see some momentum behind the Test match fund. We need to take away the barriers and encourage Test cricket to be the best of the best. To retain that history and that legacy, which goes alongside the newer forms of white-ball cricket.”
Meanwhile, Jay Shah was hopeful that the Indian team would win more titles. BCCI’s secretary made a huge comment on the sidelines of the CEAT awards that were held in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Jay Shah said, “What next? I would like to remind everyone what I said before the T20 World Cup, that Rohit Sharma will plant the Indian flag at Barbados (final) and he did. When you have 1.4 billion people’s blessings, I can say we will do the same in the (2025) Champions Trophy, (2025) World Test Championship final and (2024) women’s T20 World Cup.”
“I dedicate the award to all our women players, our 2023 ODI runners-up team and the 2024 T20 World Cup team,” Jay Shah said after winning the award for the Best Administrator on Wednesday.
