Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah spoke to the crowd on Thursday at Wankhede Stadium during the Victory Parade celebrations after India's T20 World Cup 2024 win. The 30-year-old bowled a game-changing spell in the finals of the T20 World Cup against South Africa in Barbados.

The 30-year-old has categorically stated that he isn’t going to retire for a long time. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from the T20I format after India won the World Cup.

Jasprit Bumrah who is widely loved in Mumbai, while speaking during the Victory Parade, said, “It's is a long way away. I have just started. Hopefully, it is far away now." This was in response to whether he intends to give up one format of the game just like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja.

Jasprit Bumrah plays a pivotal role in India’s win

At one stage during the T20 World Cup final, South Africa needed 30 runs from 30 balls after Heinrich Klaasen had hit Axar Patel for 24 runs. Jasprit Bumrah then gave 2 runs in his next over before bowling a great final over where he also dismissed Marco Jansen.

That turned the game on its head as Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya then showed great discipline to pull the game into India’s favour. Rohit Sharma paid huge compliments towards Jasprit Bumrah during the victory parade.

Rohit Sharma said, "Like everyone in the stadium here, we also felt at one point if it is going to slip away again, but what happened in those last five overs was truly, truly special.”

The Indian skipper also said, “You know what I'd like everyone to do is applaud a guy who brought us back into games again and again and again in this tournament. What he did in those last five overs, bowling two out of the last five overs, it was phenomenal. A huge round of applause for Jasprit Bumrah, please. We are lucky that he plays for us.”

Jasprit Bumrah also added towards the end of his speech and said, "It was unreal. Usually, I am not the one who is at a loss of words, but seeing my son, the emotions that came in. I never cry after the game, but I started crying, and I cried two, three times."
