It was a fun-filled evening in Mumbai during the CEAT Awards which were held on Wednesday. Some of the biggest names in Indian Cricket were being awarded for their contribution over the last 12 months. There was a massive round of laughter when Mohammed Shami and Shreyas Iyer were asked a question about Rohit Sharma.

Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami was given the ODI Bowler of the year on Wednesday. The 33-year-old, while speaking about Rohit Sharma, paid huge compliments to the Indian skipper during the CEAT Cricket Awards ceremony.

Mohammed Shami said, “The best thing about Rohit Sharma is that he gives you freedom but if you don't live up to his expectations then the reactions we see on the screen, the ones we understand without him saying anything, start to come out."

Just after Mohammed Shami stopped speaking, the mic was passed to Shreyas Iyer. The 29-year-old said, “He's actually right. We fill in the words 'woh', 'yeh', 'usko', 'isko', it is kind of like fill in the blanks for us. So, we just visualise that what will happen in that particular moment or he is talking about what will happen in another situation.”

The Indian batter also said, “But, we understand his feelings, we have been playing with him for so many years. It's not like he is trying to beat around the bush, we know exactly what he feels.”

Responding to this, Rohit Sharma, with a smile on his face, said, “There's a simple story behind this. I keep telling them to be themselves on the field, but for that first, I have to be myself, and that is how I am, and that is how I want to be on the field as well."

It is to be noted that Shreyas Iyer was given the award for the best captaincy award. The 29-year-old was the skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders side that won the IPL 2024 title by beating Sunrisers Hyderabad. This was also the first title for KKR since their last triumph in 2014 under Gautam Gambhir who was the captain.
