On 12th April, Abhishek Sharma guided Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a magnificent win against Punjab Kings (PBKS). During the high-scoring match, the left-handed batter scored his first maiden century for SRH as the Pat Cummins-led side chased down the target of 246 runs with two overs still to spare. Abhishek's innings came to an end after getting out on 141 runs off 55 balls. This was the highest score by an Indian batter in IPL history.

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, his mentor, was left in shock by seeing the maturity of Abhishek Sharma. While he was batting on 98 runs, he looked calm and did not go for a big shot to get his first hundred for SRH, instead, he went for two singles to score a century. The contest was pure entertainment for cricket fans as the game saw a brilliant batting display from Travis Head and Shreyas Iyer as well.

Meanwhile, Yuvraj Singh praised Abhishek Sharma for his knock along with Travis Head and Shreyas Iyer for their batting. "Wah Sharma ji ke bete! 98 pe single, phir 99 pe single! Itni maturity haan, hum nahi ho rahi! Great knock, Abhishek Sharma. Well played, Travis Head. These openers are a treat to watch together. Well played Shreyas Iyer, a treat to watch as well," Yuvraj Singh tweeted after the match.

SRH's losing streak ended

In the past, Yuvraj Singh made fun of Abhishek's careless batting. Abhishek's aggressive batting approach in an attempt to make rapid runs has cost him a lot of big knocks on multiple occasions. He frequently stated that Abhishek would score many more hundreds than he does now if he played with greater poise.

Hyderabad's four-game losing streak ended thanks to a knock by Abhishek Sharma, which also increased their net run rate. Just behind Punjab Kings' incredible 262-run chase against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024, SRH's successful chase of 246 in just 18.3 overs was the second-highest in IPL history.
