It left the entire Indian cricket paradigm in a big discussion and debate when former India skipper announced his retirement from Test cricket. The Indian batting stalwart made this big announcement with a story on his official Instagram handle on Wednesday, May 7. Since then, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian cricket think tank have been left with the task of appointing a new skipper for India’s upcoming tour of England for a five-match Test series.
“Hello everyone, I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years,” wrote Rohit Sharma in his Instagram story while announcing his retirement.
In the same line of events, former India batter Manoj Tiwary came up with his bold opinion while speaking of Rohit Sharma’s Test retirement. Tiwary’s statement came just a few days after Rohit announced his retirement.
Manoj Tiwary feels that Rohit’s way of announcing his retirement was quite abrupt and shocking, and he could have opted for a different way to bid adieu to the longest format of the game.
“If Rohit Sharma had retired not on social media but on the field after playing, it would have been a more fitting send-off. It would’ve felt better for all of us, too,” said Tiwary to Cricbuzz
“He was a very popular leader among this group of boys. If you see, even the young players wanted to play under him. We always hear them say in their interviews, ‘I really enjoyed playing under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy,” he added later.
Now, BCCI is considering some options from the young cricketers who can lead the Indian Test side in the future. The star batter Shubman Gill is one of the frontrunners in this race of Test captaincy after the star pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah reportedly pulled himself out of contention.
