12 years ago it was today (April 4) in 2013 when one of the illustrious cricketing careers started in Indian cricket. Here, we are talking about the veteran MI pacer and star India pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah who made his IPL debut in the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2013 edition. It was the second game of the tournament’s sixth edition.
The then MI skipper Ricky Ponting won the toss and asked RCB to bat first at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The debutant pacer Jasprit Bumrah, was introduced into the bowling attack in the fifth over of the RCB innings.

The moment when Virat Kohli became Jasprit Bumrah’s first IPL wicket
In the very first over of his IPL career, Jasprit Bumrah bowled to the Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli. The over started with Kohli hitting two consecutive fours off Bumrah on the first two deliveries, followed by a dot ball on the third ball of the over. Kohli again smashed Bumrah for a boundary on the fourth ball of the over.
However, it was the fifth ball of the over when Bumrah announced his arrival in the Indian Premier League with his very first wicket. The then 19-year-old Bumrah trapped Kohli in a delivery which was quite wide of the crease, followed by getting a sharp angle inwards. The star RCB batter found himself stuck in front of the stumps, resulting in an LBW dismissal.
In his debut appearance against RCB in IPL 2013, Bumrah ended up as the leading wicket-taker for the eventual champions MI in that game. He scalped 3 wickets at 32 runs in his 4 overs, with a brilliant bowling strike rate of 8.00. Besides him, Mitchell Johnson and Harbhajan Singh also claimed a wicket each to restrict RCB to the score of 156 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the first innings.
However, Bumrah’s valiant bowling performance went in vain as MI couldn’t chase down the target and scored only 154 for the loss of 5 wickets, losing the game by a narrow 2-run margin. In his very first season for Mumbai Indians, Jasprit Bumrah also became part of MI’s first-ever IPL title-winning squad in the 2013 edition of the tournament.
