Jasprit Bumrah set for cricketing return soon: Reports Photograph: (X)
As per reports carried by ESPN Cricinfo, it has come to light that India's star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is soon set to make his return to the field. The reports further stated the 31-year-old has been bowling in a bid to get fit for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. As per the reports from Cricinfo, Bumrah will not be part of Mumbai Indians’ upcoming clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Lucknow on Friday and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at home on Monday.
MI made a slow start to the season with losses away to Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. The first win of the season came at home against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday. Hardik Pandya and his side beat KKR by eight wickets and will look to take the same momentum to the Ekana Stadium against LSG.
The reports further stated that Bumrah is ‘cautious’ as far as his return goes. It is likely that the pacer could be part of the second half of the IPL season, which could be a huge boost for the five-time winners. The main focus for Bumrah is the five-match Test series against England that begins towards the end of June.
Former Australian star Shane Watson has cautioned India about Jasprit Bumrah after the seamer’s latest injury concerns. Hindustan Times quoted Watson as saying, “Look, the way you learn about how to manage yourself is by pushing the limit and breaking. If you never push the limit, you don’t know what your limit is. That’s what happened with Bumrah over the years”
The 44-year-old also said, “Now they know what the breaking point is. So, they just have to work up and try not to push the breaking point again because no one wants to see Bumrah missing out on cricket. He’s a freak of nature, he really is. He’s superhuman with what he is able to do with the ball”
Mumbai Indians’ coach Mahela Jayawardene had expressed his anguish of not having his senior bowler for the start of the season. ESPN Cricinfo had quoted the MI coach as saying “Bumrah has just started his progress. We have to see what BCCI’s medical team feedback is on him”.
The former Lankan legend also said “At the moment, everything is going well. But, obviously, it is on a day-to-day basis. He is in good spirits. Not having him is a challenge. He is one of the best bowlers in the world and he has been a fantastic pro for us for many years”
