Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) young pacer Mayank Yadav is in contention to be picked for the T20I series against Bangladesh. Three matches are set to be played at the end of the Test series starting on 6th October. The right-arm pacer hasn’t played since he injured himself during the IPL 2024 season for LSG.

According to a BCCI source as quoted by Times of India, the team management is cautious about hurrying Yadav back into the fray. As per reports, the right arm pacer is in a special camp which also includes the likes of Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag and Abhishek Sharma.

The BCCI source while speaking to the Times of India said “Mayank hasn’t complained of any pain in the last month or so. He is bowling full tilt at the NCA. The selectors are interested to see how ready he is for international cricket”

Speaking to the newspaper, the BCCI source also said “With the long Test season ahead, the selectors are keen to try new faces for the T20Is against Bangladesh. Pandya hasn’t played competitive cricket for nearly a couple of months. Even Abhishek needs quality practice”

There are reports that the likes of Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson will be included in the team. Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj are some of the names that can be rested with the 3 Test against New Zealand and the tour of Australia in the offing.

One can expect Harshit Rana to be part of the team that is to be led by Suryakumar Yadav. According to the source, NCA has come up with a special plan for Mayank Yadav to help him get back to full fitness.

The BCCI source also added “He (Mayank) is bowling close to 20 overs with the white ball in three different spells in a day. There is a strong chance of selectors picking him for the Bangladesh series after seeing him in the camp at the NCA. Agarkar is slated to travel to Bengaluru to attend the inauguration of the new NCA”

“The selectors don’t want him to be restricted just to the T20 format. Therefore, they want to carefully monitor his progress. India coach Gautam Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel rate him highly since their time together at LSG” said the source while speaking to TOI.
