Mumbai Indians (MI) won their second successive game in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The five-time winners beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by four wickets thanks to Will Jacks, who finally showed his true form with the bat and ball. It wasn’t a great start to the day for the Englishman, who had dropped Abhishek Sharma on the very first ball of the game.
It was Hardik Pandya who won the toss and chose to bowl first on what was a sticky wicket in Mumbai. Sunrisers Hyderabad ended their innings on 162 runs from the loss of five wickets. Abhishek Sharma was the best batter for SRH with 40, while Heinrich Klaasen was the next best batter with 37 runs.
The best bowler for MI was Will Jacks, who bowled three overs and picked two wickets for 14 runs. Ishan Kishan was the victim of the day for Jacks, who had the former MI star stumped by Ryan Rickelton for two runs. Travis Head, who struggled to find his timing with the bat, holed out to Mitchell Santner for 28 runs.
Mumbai Indians achieve win in key encounter
Needing 163 runs to win the game, MI scored just four runs in the first over of the chase. Rohit Sharma, who has been in woeful form this season, then hit Shami for two successive sixes and deposited Pat Cummins for his third six of the innings. Just when the former MI skipper was looking dangerous, Rohit was out, caught by Travis Head for 26.
Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton then added 37 runs for the second wicket in four overs. Rickelton would have been out caught but Heinrich Klaasen had his gloves in front of the stumps when the ball was delivered. The South African batter was out after scoring 31 runs, caught by Head off Harshal Patel.
Suryakumar Yadav came out to the wicket and played his trademark shots as the pair of Yadav and Jacks added 52 runs for the third wicket. That stand came in 29 balls to sway the game in MI’s favour. Eshan Maling got some late excitement into the game with the wickets of Pandya and Naman Dhir. In the end it was just consolation as MI won the game to move to six points from seven games.
