Needing six runs to win from six balls, the first ball saw Pant miss the stumping of Mohit Sharma. LSG took the review for LBW but the call went against them as the ball was missing the stumps. In the next ball, Mohit took a quick single as LSG fielders couldn’t pick the ball in time and effect a run-out.

With five runs needed from four balls, Ashutosh hit the bowler straight down the ground for a huge six. Sharma ended with 66 not out from 31 balls with five hits to the fence and five huge sixes which included the winning shot. Once the shot was hit, the batter celebrated by going onto his knees and motioning towards the dugout.

Vipraj Nigam makes huge splash with the bat in his debut game

At one stage, Delhi Capitals were placed at 65 for the loss of five wickets with 80 balls left to play. At that stage, DC still needed 145 runs to win with the asking nearly at 12 runs per over. Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma added 48 runs for the sixth wicket in just 35 balls. M Siddharth got the wicket of Stubbs for 34 to bring LSG back into the game.

Debutant Vipraj Nigam came to the wicket and went after the bowling as the seventh wicket stand raised 55 runs. Nigam and Sharma kept the scoreboard ticking with boundaries with the partnership coming up in just 22 balls. In the first ball after the second time-out Nigam was out for 39 caught by Siddharth off Rathi. Nigam scored his runs off just 15 balls with five boundaries and two sixes. Delhi lost Starc and Kuldeep Yadav in quick succession but Mohit Sharma held his nerve and took DC over the line.

LSG skipper Rishabh Pant speaking to the broadcasters at the end of the game said “I think the runs were enough on the board. The batters batted really well. We may have lost the momentum in the middle but I think that was a pretty good score on this wicket. Definitely as a team we are looking to take positives from every match and learn from it. I think the more we get basics right the better we will get. We need to do the basics right more often”
