Rishabh Pant is all set to lead the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Pant is the costliest player in the history of the league after he was purchased for INR 27 crores during the IPL 2025 auctions. Pant was named the captain of the side ahead of the new season.

The 27-year-old was seen batting in the LSG nets ahead of the new season. Lucknow’s skipper played the perfect helicopter shot made famous by former India and Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni. Just a few days ago, Dhoni had played the shot in the nets while he was facing Matheesha Pathirana.

Lucknow are set to begin their campaign against the Delhi Capitals on Monday. The game will witness KL Rahul, who is now with Delhi, take on his former teammates. Shardul Thakur, who enjoyed a great season with Mumbai in domestic cricket, has joined LSG. The 33-year-old has replaced pacer Mohsin Khan, who is yet to recover from his injury.

Former India batter suggest best batting spot for Rishabh Pant

Suresh Raina has suggested that LSG skipper Rishabh Pant should bat at number four in the coming season. Pant, who last played during the SCG Test earlier in the year, was benched for the ODI series against England as well as the Champions Trophy 2025.

Raina, while speaking on Jio Hotstar, was quoted by NDTV as saying, “I think this season will be very important for him. As you rightly said, he is not in that scheme currently. But I think if you see his captaincy, he is very cheerful and very innovative. He has that calmness and astute leadership. I really want him to play at number three.”

The 38-year-old also added, “But looking at their squad, they have Pooran, David Miller, and Aiden Markram; I think he will be batting number four, as then they have a lot of depth in their batting line-up. So I really want him to bat at number four, as then probably he can play the role of finishing the innings for the LSG. But I think this IPL will change his fortune.”
