RCB vs KKR Abandoned Photograph: (X)
IPL 2025 match number 58 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight was abandoned without a toss taking place. Chinnaswamy Stadium was all set to witness the resumption of the league after its suspension due to the India-Pakistan border tension. A massive number of fans had come to watch the game but unfortunately constant rains meant that the game was abandoned with each team getting one point.
With this result, RCB have now gone to the top of the table with 17 points from 12 games. Rajat Patidar and his men have two games left: one at home against Sunrisers Hyderabad and one away to Lucknow Super Giants. RCB are just one step closer to reaching the playoffs after the washed-out game on Saturday.
Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders are officially out of the tournament. Ajinkya Rahane and his men needed to win both their games to keep their little hopes of making it to the playoffs. KKR have now become the fourth team to be eliminated from the tournament. This leaves six teams in the fray to fight for the top four slots of the points table.
Here we take a closer look at the qualification scenarios for each side
6- Lucknow Super Giants
Rishabh Pant’s side currently has played 11 games and won five matches this season to acquire ten points. Lucknow Super Giants first have to win all their games with a huge margin to reach 16 points. Winning all their games will not be enough, as LSG also would have to hope that the Mumbai Indians lose both their games and the Delhi Capitals don’t win more than one game. This will mean MI ends their campaign on 14 points, while DC will end with 15 points.
5- Delhi Capitals
Just like Lucknow, even Delhi Capitals have played 11 games and are set to take on Gujarat on Sunday. A win over the Titans will mean that Delhi leapfrogs the Mumbai Indians into the fourth spot. The two sides (MI and DC) meet in a key encounter on Wednesday and DC will then end their league phase with a game against Punjab Kings.
If Delhi win their final three games, they will move to 19 points and confirm their spot in the playoffs
If Delhi wins two matches, they will head to 17 points, and that is enough for a berth in the playoffs.
If Delhi wins just one out of their final three games, they will have 15 points. In this case, DC will have to hope that Mumbai doesn’t win their final game against Punjab.
If Delhi loses each of their final three games, they will have only 13 points and will be knocked out of the IPL 2025 tournament.
4- Mumbai Indians
Five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians have 14 points from 12 games but their run rate is the best of all the teams. Their loss to GT in the last game caused a huge issue in their hopes of making it to the playoffs.
If the Mumbai Indians win both their games, they will move to 18 points and secure a top-four spot.
If the Mumbai Indians win just one game out of the final two, they will have 16 points. In such a scenario, MI will have to hope DC lose two out of their three games.
If Mumbai Indians lose both their games, then Hardik Pandya’s men will be out of the tournament since DC would have overhauled them.
3- Punjab Kings
Considered one of the strongest sides of IPL 2025, Punjab Kings have 15 points from their 11 games. Shreyas Iyer and his men take on Rajasthan Royals on Sunday before playing Delhi and Mumbai to end their league phase season.
If PBKS win each of their final three games, they will have 21 points and will secure a playoff berth in the top two spots.
If PBKS wins two out of three games left, they will still qualify for the playoffs.
If PBKS just wins one out of their three games, then they will have 17 points. In this case, they will have to hope that Mumbai doesn’t win more than one game. PBKS will also have to hope that DC also loses two games to stay out of the qualification places.
If PBKS loses each of their three games, they will have 15 points; in this case, Punjab will have to beat MI and also hope DC can do them a favour. PBKS then has to hope that DC also loses at least two games and both teams will have 15 points and the team with the better RR will go through.
2- Gujarat Titans
The best team of IPL 2025 has been the Gujarat Titans, as they sit second with 16 points from their 11 games. The Titans face Delhi on Sunday and a win will guarantee them a spot in the playoffs. GT just need one win out of their final three games to become the first side to qualify for the playoffs.
1- Royal Challengers Bengaluru
With the abandoned result on Saturday, RCB has one foot in the door for the playoff spot. Currently RCB has 17 points from 12 games and just needs to win one game out of their final two matches to make it to the playoffs. The worst RCB can do is finish outside the top two spots if they lose one of their final two games. RCB will also reach the playoffs along with Gujarat if the Titans beat the Capitals on Sunday.
