Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) game on Wednesday night. This win helped MI move to third spot in the table, overhauling Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who are now fourth. For SRH, this loss now puts them on the brink of exit from the IPL 2025 tournament.
Pat Cummins and his side now face Chennai Super Kings in a do-or-die encounter on Friday. The loser of that encounter will be knocked out of the tournament with five matches left to play. Hardik Pandya’s decision to win the toss and bowl first paid rich dividends as his bowlers restricted SRH to just 143 on the board.
New Zealand seamer Trent Boult led the charge with the ball, claiming four wickets for 26 runs from his four overs. Boult set the tone with the wicket of Travis Head for a duck caught by Naman Dhir. The veteran seamer then got the wicket of Abhishek Sharma for eight before getting the scalps of Abhinav Manohar and Pat Cummins in the final over.
Mumbai Indians romp home to easy win
Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma came out to bat, and the South African wicketkeeper began with a four off Cummins’ bowling. Jaydev Unadkat got the key wicket of Rickelton, caught and bowled for 11 runs. Will Jacks and Rohit then combined to 64 runs for the second wicket in 46 balls.
Both batters combined aggression with smart cricket to take full toll of some loose bowling from SRH. Jacks scored 22 off 19 balls with two fours and a six before holing out to Abhinav Manohar off Zeeshan Ansari’s bowling. Rohit Sharma, though, kept going and with a single in the third ball of the 11th over, the veteran batter got to his second successive fifty.
Suryakumar Yadav joined Rohit in the middle and began with two crisp fours off Ansari’s bowling. The veteran duo continued to milk SRH’s bowlers with constant boundaries. Rohit Sharma was out after scoring 46-ball 70, which had eight fours and three sixes. In the end, Hardik Pandya was seen wearing a huge smile on his face as his side coasted to their fourth successive win on the bounce.
