Chasing 191 runs to win, LSG's lost opener Aiden Markram early for a single to Mohammed Shami. From there it was the Nicholas Pooran show who scored his fifty off just 18 balls. Pooran and Marsh added 116 runs for the second wicket off just 43 balls to take the game away from the hosts. Pooran was out after scoring 70 off just 26 balls with six boundaries and equal number of sixes.
Mitchell Marsh scored his second successive fifty off the campaign before he was out for 52. His knock came off 31 balls which was laced with two sixes and seven powerfully struck fours. Abdul Samad (22* off 8 balls) and David Miller’s 13 not out saw LSG to an easy win. The winning shot was hit by Miller as he clobbered Ishan Kishan for a four.
Shardul Thakur playing his 97th game in the IPL picked four wickets to reach the 100 mark in the league. The 33-year-old got the game off to a great with the wickets of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan off successive balls. Thakur then got the wickets of Abhinav Manohar and Mohammed Shami to take the purple cap.
Pat Cummins praises LSG bowlers after five-wicket loss
Speaking to the broadcasters at the end of the game, SRH skipper Pat Cummins said, “Different wicket to the other day. We wanted to get above 200. A little short but they batted very well. The other day was the world's best wicket, today's was probably the second best. Every time it's a fresh game. Really happy with how we went. They bowled really well.”
The 31-year-old also added, “Few things didn't go our way but we did pretty well to get to 190. You always hope for that one person to bat through the innings like Ishan did that day. But we missed that. But we had a few good cameos. You always back your players to play how they see it. Normally when someone gets in, they go long.”
Nicholas Pooran who was awarded the top scorer with the bat said at the end of the game, “I don't plan to hit sixes. I just try my best to get into big positions. Obviously when the matchup is there you try your best. That's a beautiful wicket”. Pooran also praised opening Mitchell Marsh as he said, “It's a really long tournament and it's nice to see Marsh at the top of the order. We are playing cricketing shots and not losing wickets. Our left-right partnership is really important. It helps us build partnerships and also with matchups.”
