In what looks to be a big setback for the Delhi Capitals, the veteran pacer Mitchell Starc is set to miss the remainder of the IPL 2025. The Aussie speedster has officially written to the franchise, stating his unavailability for the rest of the tournament. Notably, he has been one of the crucial ‘performers with the ball’ for DC in the tournament before it was suspended due to the escalated cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
A report in Cricbuzz understands that, “after keeping Delhi Capitals franchise in tenterhooks for close to three days, the Australia pacer is believed to have informed the franchise on Thursday that he cannot join. He is understood to have sent an email to the team.”
Besides Starc, the former Proteas skipper and veteran batter Faf du Plessis and wicketkeeper-batter Donovan Ferreira will also be unavailable to be a part of the DC squad for the tournament’s remaining part.
Mustafizur Rahman in line to join DC for the last leg of IPL 2025
Speaking of Starc, he was the leading wicket-taker for his side before the IPL 2025’s suspension. The 35-year-old scalped 14 wickets in 10 innings, including a five-wicket haul to his credit and had a decent bowling strike rate of 15.42. However, the DC management will look forward to having the services of Bangladesh's quick Mustafizur Rahman, who has been brought in as a replacement for the young Aussie batter Jake Fraser-McGurk.
However, a NOC controversy is also reported to surround the presence of Mustafizur in IPL, but he is believed to join the DC squad shortly, as the NOC issue seems to be on the path to getting solved.
In the ongoing 18th edition of the tournament, Axar Patel-led DC had an amazing start to their campaign four successive wins in their first four games. But they haven’t been in an expected run of form in their last couple of games, losing three games while winning only one in their last five fixtures.
