Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) are back on the field sweating it out for the restart of the 2025 season. MI are currently fourth in the points table with two matches left to play. The Men in Blue and Gold will play their home game of the season against Delhi Capitals. This will be followed by a trip to Jaipur where Hardik Pandya’s men take on Punjab Kings in their final game of the season.
Mumbai posted a short video of their players resuming training to get in shape in a bid to make it to the playoffs. Rohit Sharma was seen playing a huge shot while spinner Karn Sharma, young Robin Minz, and batter Tilak Varma were also part of the session. The likes of Ashwani Kumar and Raj Bawa were also featured working hard in the nets.
In their last game, Mumbai Indians lost to Gujarat Titans at home in a last-ball thriller. If MI win both their final two games of the season, they will move to 18 points and confirm their playoff qualification. A loss against Delhi Capitals will mean that MI will have to win their final game against Punjab Kings to move to 16 points and also hope that Delhi and Lucknow lose their final games.
Hardik Pandya’s side will want to avoid losses in their final two games of the season. In such a scenario, MI will have 14 points from 14 games and will have to hope that other results go their way. After a poor start to the season where Mumbai had won just once from five games, the five-time IPL winners won six successive games.
Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch headache for Mumbai Indians
With South Africa and Australia having announced their teams for the World Test Championships (WTC) finals, most of the IPL sides are set to be affected. Ryan Rickelton has been one of the best batters for MI this season. Rickelton has scored 336 runs from 12 games with three fifties with an average of 30 and a strike rate of 153.
Corbin Bosch, who made his IPL debut for MI in the game against Lucknow, made an immediate impact. Bosch played three games, scoring 47 runs, with his best of 27 coming against Gujarat Titans in his previous appearance. Both players have been named in South Africa’s final WTC squad and have to leave India before MI’s final game against PBKS.
One good piece of news for MI fans is that Mitchell Santner is fit and has started bowling in the nets. The 33-year-old had injured himself, giving Bosch a chance to make his IPL debut. With Rickelton set to leave, one can expect Will Jacks to open the batting, while Bevon Jacobs could finally play his first game of the season.
