In what registered as an unprecedented day in the entire 21-year-long history of the Cricket’s T20 format, Punjab Kings registered the highest successful run-chase to their name after beating KKR by 8 wickets in the 42nd game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Both teams played against each other in this historic match at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
With this unbelievably successful run-chase, PBKS also surpassed the Rajasthan Royals to register the highest successful run-chase to their name in the history of the Indian Premier League and the history of T20 cricket as well.
The visiting skipper Sam Curran won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first; batting first, KKR posted one of the highest team totals in the history of IPL Shreyas Iyer’s men scored 261 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Openers Phil Salt and Sunil Narine played the blistering knocks of 75 and 71 runs, off just 37 and 32 balls, respectively. Later, Venkatesh Iyer and Shreyas Iyer also scored 39 and 28 runs, respectively, alongside Andre Russell’s 24 runs off just 12 balls, with 2 fours and 2 sixes.
Arshdeep Singh bagged 2 wickets for PBKS in the first innings, alongside one wicket each picked by Sam Curran, Harshal Patel, and Rahul Chahar.

While chasing the target, the opening pair of veteran batter Jonny Bairstow and impact batter Prabhsimran Singh provided a blistering start of 93 runs in just 6 overs. Prabhsimran scored 54 runs off just 20 balls, with 4 fours and 5 sixes followed by Bairstow’s explosive century off just 48 balls, with 8 fours and 9 sixes.
Later, the star batter Shashank Singh also smashed 68 runs off just 28 balls, with 2 fours and 8 sixes to help Punjab Kings execute the historic run-chase in the history of the entire T20 cricket and the 16-year-long history of the Indian Premier League. Eventually, PBKS scored 262 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets in 18.4 overs to win the match by a massive margin of 8 wickets.
