Josh Hazlewood bowled just one over on Tuesday during the 4th day of the third Test match in Gabba. The 33-year-old had missed the previous game in Adelaide, which saw Scott Boland take his place. Hazlewood made his way back into the playing XI for the 3rd Test and picked Virat Kohli’s wicket for three runs.
Michael Vaughan, during his commentary stint, observed, “He is looking ginger, and I am sure he is injured. Things are not looking fine for me, and he was not on the ground for some time. Look at his walk and the field placement. This has been the case with him for over a year. There is something majorly wrong with him, and I feel this could be the end of the series for him.”
The last few years have been filled with injury for Hazlewood, and this will be a massive worry for the home team. There are still two Test matches to be played in the series, and skipper Pat Cummins will be hoping his ace pacer gets fit in time for the Boxing Day game in Melbourne, which is to be played on 26th December.
Michael Vaughan makes worrying statement on Indian squad
After an amazing start to the series with the 295-run win in the Perth Test match, India’s batting and bowling units have come unstuck. The onus of bowling and also fighting for the team has fallen on the shoulders of Jasprit Bumrah. Former England skipper Michael Vaughan praised India’s pacer for his solo exploits.
Michael Vaughan said, “Australia have three world-beaters, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc, while India have got just one in the form of Jasprit Bumrah. He hasn’t received support from the other bowlers. We saw the same issue in Adelaide as well. On the other hand, Australian seamers are genuine wicket-takers, and they will not give India easy scoring opportunities. They will always be at you throughout the match.”
The former English skipper, while speaking on Star Sports, also said, “Jasprit Bumrah has been phenomenal throughout the series and was once again unstoppable in the first innings in Brisbane. The problem for India is that Australia have three bowlers who can bowl, like Jasprit Bumrah. Hazlewood, Cummins and Starc are world-class bowlers and playing against them will not be easy for the Indian batters in this Test match.”
