The inaugural edition champions India are set to take on defending champions England in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024. The two powerhouses of international cricket will clash at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday, June 27.

Notably, England has advanced to the final of the 2022 edition after handing a heartbreaking 10-wicket defeat to India in the semi-final at the Adelaide Oval. So, the Men in Blue team will be eager to avenge their defeat.

Both the teams put up an outstanding performance in the runners up to the knockout stage. India are unbeaten so far in the tournament, with their most recent win coming against Australia in their last Super 8 match.

Here is India's predicted playing XI for the second semi-final against England:

Openers: Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli

Rohit Sharma is leading the team from the front. The veteran opener is currently India’s top-scorer with 191 runs at an average of 38.20 and a strike rate of 159.17. He is coming on the back of a match-winning performance against Australia, scoring 92 off just 41 balls.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is yet to make an impact in the tournament. Experimenting in the opening slot in national colours did not yield the desired results. He was dismissed for a five-ball duck in the previous match against Australia – his second failure in opening the account in the ongoing World Cup.

Middle-order: Rishabh Pant (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube

While Kohli’s promotion in the batting order did not work as expected, Rishabh Pant has performed exceptionally well. The southpaw is India’s second-highest run-getter with 167 runs at an average of 33.40 and a strike rate of 132.54. He played some crucial knocks in the group stages and the team will hope that his good form continues.

Suryakumar Yadav has a topsy-turvy campaign so far. The right-hander hasn’t been consistent but has played a couple of impactful knocks. Batting in the middle order, Surya amassed 149 runs in six innings. Shivam Dube was heavily criticised for his poor performance in the league stage. The big-hitter managed to silence his critics to some extent by contributing crucial runs in the last two matches.

All-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel

Hardik Pandya has turned all his IPL haters into fans with his unbelievable performance. The star all-rounder and India vice-captain has managed to shine in both departments. He is expected to continue his fine form in the upcoming crucial matches.

Ravindra Jadeja did not disappoint the fans with his fielding efforts, but the spin all-rounder failed to live up to expectations with the bat and bowl. He bowled just one over in the last match and conceded 17 runs. Axar Patel, on the other hand, has been a trump card for India. He has the knack of bowling economical overs and chipping in with crucial runs in various batting positions.

Bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah

Kuldeep Yadav was benched throughout the group stage matches but later cemented his place in XI with solid performances. The left-arm wrist spinner has picked up seven wickets in the three Super 8 games. He was remarkable against Bangladesh and Australia, picking up three and two crucial wickets, respectively.

Arshdeep Singh is currently the second-highest wicket-taker of the series – six wickets at an average of 11.87. The left-arm pacer has been doing well with the new ball and has provided excellent support to India's premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Notably, Bumrah has taken 11 wickets at an average of 8.55 and a brilliant economy rate of 4.09. He is one of the primary reasons behind India’s remarkable run so far.
