In 1978, India earned a qualification for being the hosts of the 4-team tournament. India lost all of their 3 matches and ended last. The following edition in 1982, India won 4 and lost 8 matches to finish fourth among the five teams. While India didn't participate in 1988, they finished fourth of the eight teams in 1993.
