Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli dropped a crucial catch just before lunch on the 4th day of the Kanpur Test. Mominul Haque was batting on 95 when Mohammed Siraj induced an edge that carried to slip. Kohli stuck his left hand out only to see the ball get grassed as the chance went begging.

It was a huge drop as the former Bangladeshi skipper was asserting his dominance over Indian bowlers. In the very next over, Mominul Haque was batting on 96 as he swept R. Ashwin for a four to reach the three-figure mark.

With this century, Mominul Haque became just the 2nd overseas batter to score a ton in Kanpur. The previous batter was Andrew Hall who achieved the feat for South Africa during the 2004 Test match.

Brilliant fielding effort from India headlines first session

Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque resumed for Bangladesh with side placed 107/3. As 35 overs were bowled after play was stopped for over 2 days due to rain and wet outfield. Jasprit Bumrah gave India its wicket when he castled Rahim with a brilliant ball for 11.

Litton Das was sent ahead of Shakib Al Hasan as the Bangladeshi star hit 3 fours. Batting on 13, Das gave Siraj the charge and didn’t time the ball well. Trying to clear the ball over the infield, Das saw his timing go wrong. Rohit Sharma jumped up and took a brilliant one-handed catch.

Shakib Al Hasan possibly playing his final Test then gave Ashwin the charge and hit him for a four. The very next ball the former Bangladesh skipper tried to do the same but this time he perished.

Ashwin gave the ball more flight as Shakib came down the wicket to hit him for a six. With the ball high in the air, Siraj went back and took a neat tumbling catch to end Shakib’s stint. There were some lapses on the field, apart from the easy dropped catch by Kohli.

KL Rahul and Shubman Gill let go off easy fours twice, much to the dismay of Mohammed Siraj. Prior to the lunch break, the visiting side were on 205/6 with Mominul Haque batting on 102 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz on 6. Team India had bowled 31 overs before lunch with 67 more set to be bowled in the day.
