Glenn Phillips was a hero for New Zealand during the final ball of the third day in Bengaluru. The 27-year-old is struck in the last ball of the day to dismiss star Indian batter Virat Kohli. The former Indian skipper was batting well on 70 when he got a flat ball outside off stump. 

Virat Kohli tried to defend the ball as the Kiwis went up in unison. The umpire had no hesitation in giving the batter out. Kohli went up and sought help from the 3rd umpire in a bid to end the day for India on a high. Once the replay came up on the screen the entire crowd groaned as there was a faint edge.

Once the decision was confirmed, Virat Kohli put his head down and was seen walking back to the hut. The 35-year-old batted 102 balls for his 70 runs with the help of 8 fours and one six. During his knock, Kohli also scored his 9000th run in Test cricket. 

Sarfaraz Khan holds fort for India on see-saw day of Test cricket 

All of India’s hopes will depend on Sarfaraz Khan who is batting on 70 from 78 balls. The 27-year-old has hit 7 fours and 3 sixes during his knock. At the time of stumps on the 3rd day, India had managed to score 231/3 from 49 overs. The home team still trails New Zealand by 125 runs with two more days left in the game. 

Earlier in the day, Rachin Ravindra batted well to score 134 off 157 balls with 13 fours and 4 sixes. Tim Southee gave his young partner good support to hit 65 off 73 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes. The pair added 137 runs before Mohammed Siraj broke the stand. For India, the best bowlers in the 1st innings were Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav who picked 3 wickets each. 

Rohit Sharma scored a brisk 52 off 59 balls while Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 35 for India. Ajaz Patel dismissed both batters in a space of 28 balls to leave India reeling at 95/2. Sarfaraz Khan and Virat Kohli then added 136 runs for the 3rd wicket in 163 balls before the latter was dismissed in the last ball of the day.
