Indian cricket team are set for a challenging total of 252 runs to win the Champions Trophy finals. Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli, and skipper Rohit Sharma’s future in the ODI format have been under the microscope. Reports are floating around that Rohit could hang up his boots in ODI cricket. The trio had retired together after India won the T20 World Cup in June last year.

Noted journalist Shubhankar Mishra posted a picture of Jadeja and Kohli sharing a warm hug. The move came after the 36-year-old Indian all-rounder had finished his spell and picked one wicket for 30 runs. Mishra took to his X handle and wrote, “Virat Kohli hugged Ravindra Jadeja after he completed his last over. Appreciation or Sign of Retirement? Jadeja playing his last ODI today?”

Jadeja has played 204 ODI matches so far, having made his debut in 2009 against Sri Lanka. The veteran star has picked 231 wickets for India with a best of 5/33 that came late in 2023 in the ODI World Cup against South Africa. With the bat, Jadeja has scored 2797 runs with 13 half-centuries and has an average of 32 with the bat.

Michael Bracewell’s late heroics propel New Zealand to 251

Having opted to bat first after winning the toss, New Zealand got off to a brisk start. The opening pair of Rachin Ravindra and Will Young added 57 runs in just 7.5 overs. Ravindra was given life twice in succession as Mohammed Shami and Shreyas Iyer dropped two key catches.

The introduction of spin changed the game as Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav got New Zealand’s top three batters. Jadeja then got the key wicket of Tom Latham for 14, which came off 30 balls. Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell added 57 runs for the fifth wicket in 87 balls. That stand was broken when Chakravarthy castled Phillips for 34.

Michael Bracewell and Mitchell then added 46 runs in 53 balls before Mitchell was out for 63. Bracewell played good shots towards the end of the innings as he was not out on 53 off 40 balls with three boundaries and two sixes. For India, the best bowlers were Kuldeep Yadav and Chakravarthy, who picked two wickets each.
